Lady

~ Lady ~

The rest of Lady's ad read like this...

She's devoted, loyal, and can be very protective, although I think she'd lick him/her to death. She is house trained and has been spayed. Trust me, you won't regret meeting her. The only reason I'm asking $20.00 is so that I'm absolutely sure Lady does not end up at the dog food plant.

The ad didn't bring in any prospective buyers, as Marie found out when she contacted the couple that had Lady. Even with the local rescues, Marie didn't have any luck finding someone to take her. Nobody wanted to take this senior, not for $20 or even for free--to a rescue that was able put her up for adoption.

That's when our Golden Friends Rescue went into action! We could not let this senior go down the drain. And it was not an easy task because our members are all over the US, from New York State to California and all the way down to central Florida.

Nora (another Golden Friends Rescue member), got in touch with some of the rescue resources she had used before but she had no luck either--the rescues were filled up!  More people were desperately trying to help Lady including Cindy from Golden Retriever Rescue Resource (GRRR).

Unfortunately, everyone was running into the same problem--finding someone to make the commitment that is needed when adopting a senior.

I began to wonder...What if I could foster Lady until we found the right home for her? I had plenty of room! I was all set up for my four dogs with fenced areas and a dog door to the inside.

The problem was, I lived in Florida and Lady was in Ohio. The e-mails started flying, the forum and our members started buzzing. Bob, Terry and Nora went on overdrive to find a solution. All of our Golden Friends Rescue members were trying to help.

The solution was Mike that offered to arrange legs of transportation--100 miles for this person, 75 miles for another, till Lady would arrive in the Panhandle of Florida at my place.

Before all the details were worked out about Lady's trip, Cindy from GRRR wrote back. She found a rescue that would take her--Golden Retrievers in Need Rescue Service, Inc. (G.R.I.N). Here is a picture of Lady from GRIN' s adoption page.

Lady

Lady's foster mom had only good things to
say about Lady, except....

"...My fence has the type of latch that drops down over the post and none of the dogs, my own or fosters, ever tried to get out. Neither did Lady while I was in the house but I happened to be in the driveway talking to my lawn care man when all of a sudden I was surrounded by dogs. I couldn't figure out how they got out of the fence until he told me the grey faced dog lifted the latch. I put them back in, walked away, and sure enough Lady immediately walked over, put her feet on the gate, her nose under the latch and flipped it up pushing the gate open with her feet. She ran right over to me and sat down."

After this issue was taken care of, it was smooth sailing. Lady was adopted the day after Christmas. The 11-year old that nobody had wanted had found a loving and caring home-- her forever home.

Lady

84 entries had been made on our forum thread pertaining to Lady's rescue, and countless e-mails were sent. But this rescue had been personal to me. You see, I had adopted a sugar face senior the year before that was now the apple of my eye. I could not bear knowing that another senior like her had ended up in the wrong place, unwanted and alone; or worse.

And yet there are so many more out there...
