~ Copper~ When Copper was relinquished, his previous owner said he was dog aggressive. In speaking with the shelter where he was staying, however, they indicated Copper showed no evidence of being aggressive when walking past other caged dogs at the shelter. Several Rescues within the state were contacted but said they could not accommodate Copper because of the aggression issue. Copper was quickly running out of time and we were told that unless something could be worked out for him, he would either be euthanized or turned over to medical research on February 3, 2009. The decision was made to try and save this dog by contacting other rescues in surrounding states to see if they could help. At this point, we could not validate the dog aggression issue from the information we had obtained from the holding shelter. We had to make a decision quickly if Copper was going to be saved.
Here is a photo of Copper when he stayed the night at

Golden One of our members in the Dallas, TX area made contact with RAGOM (Retrieve a Golden of Minnesota). Our member advised RAGOM that she would sponsor this dog financially if they would accept him. By this time other Golden Friends Rescue members had answered the call with offers of additional funds. The donations were coming in and the next step was to quickly arrange the transportation necessary to get Copper out of the kill shelter. January 29, 2009 was a red letter day! We were informed that RAGOM would accept Copper. Now the transportation plans began in earnest. We had to get him from Michigan to Minnesota--not a small task in the middle of winter. After getting some final paperwork finished and paying for Copper’s shelter fees, Golden Friends Rescue members in Florida and New York arranged for each leg of the transportation.
Not quite sure of this "transport" thing! The transport started in Michigan on February 4 and after traveling through the day with various drivers, Copper was dropped off in Aurora, IL. He would spend the night with a Golden Friends Rescue member, who then drove Copper the next morning to the Wisconsin state line where the final leg of his transport was waiting.
Okay, I'm starting to trust you... On February 5, 2009 a note was received from his foster Mom in Minnesota who said: “Copper is at my home now. All I can say is, "Thank God RAGOM let him come in!" Even after the warnings of his aggressions! I know this is the first hour of him being here, but he met my 2 dogs AND 2 kids with tail wags and curiosity. Not one lip curl. He even backed off when my 20 pound Cocker Spaniel growled at him! He is a big love, and I am so glad we gave him a chance. He still hasn't met the cats, but I'm sure it will go well. We'll keep him tethered to us until we are certain there is nothing that will set him off, but first impressions sure look great, and he is so beautiful!” It took a few months but Copper finally found his forever home. He now has a people family as well as a new fur brother.
Copper and his new buddy Tobi! From RAGOM ’s website: Copper, himself, had this to say on his first day in his new forever home: “Whew, been a few busy days for me!! And today was no different!!! Haven’t even had time for a nap!! After relaxing by the fire last nite and getting my sniff of the new house where I live- enjoying a good nites rest and having to choose which bed to sleep in!!!Z Man this is great !! I’ve been spending a LOT of time outside in the huge backyard with NO LEASH!!!! This is the life!!!! My new fur buddie-Tobi-has been patient with me and is showing me all the ropes around here!!
