~ Chrissy ~

The other dog, a Husky, began getting out of the fence and acting aggressive toward the boys.  The boys’ father was threatening to shoot the dogs and as a result, the woman just threw up her hands and took both of the dogs to her local Animal Control.

Luckily, the Animal Control officer scanned Chrissy. Finding her microchip, he called the Cleveland County Humane Society.  Because of her ordeal, Chrissy had to learn how to trust again. (She was especially fearful of men.) They discovered if they gave her a toy, she acted like a carefree puppy again!

Chrissy needed a loving, understanding home due to the circumstances that she had faced in her short life. Marguerite from Cleveland County Humane Society asked if Golden Friends Rescue would help. The Cleveland shelter was in a county where Animal Control was closed for all adoptions due to a perceived rabies epidemic and all animals not claimed by owners had to be euthanized by gas. Thus, the pressure on their small shelter was overwhelming. Marguerite said if our Golden Friends Rescue could assist them, they would be so appreciative!

Golden Friends Rescue spent many weeks calling and emailing trying to find
a rescue that would accept Chrissie.  Any rescue!  Since she was a mix with
possibly some Chow in her, it was more difficult to find a rescue that would
take her. We had no luck until we found Tails of Hope Sanctuary
(http://www.tails-of-hope.org/) who was more than willing to accept
Chrissy!!  We worked with Libby at Tails of Hope and arranged transportation from North Carolina to Maryland.  The transport hook-up went beautifully and without a hitch.  

A wonderful home was found for Chrissy. The couple had adopted from Tails of Hope previously and wanted a companion for their dogs. Chrissy is such a good girl!  Libby gave her a kiss goodbye and told her what a good and lucky girl she was to have so many angels looking after her. Libby said they would miss her, but gladly give her up to such a loving, caring family.

Thank you everyone for looking out for our Christmas angel...Chrissy.  She started out as a stray that no one could get near.  One of my special volunteers worked with her for an hour on Christmas day 2007 and finally got her hands on her to catch her.  Now, no more living hungry or scared, no more BB guns or mean threatening people. 

Thank you all for caring for our girl and giving her a soft place to land.
